AAU Basketball
Like most other basketball folks I’ve talked to, I have mixed feelings about AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) basketball. Mixed because I’ve seen a lot of mediocre coaching, nepotism through father/coach - son/player relationship, indifference, and in some cases complete lack of professionalism. This being said, AAU fills the gap for most young players after their school basketball season is over in late winter. This is the place where they can continue developing skills and playing competitive games. And yes, I’ve been to well organized tournaments, I’ve seen excellent coaching, and exciting games.
Boston Warriors AAU Team is of special interest to me because my son, Luka, plays basketball for the team in the Spring. He did it in 2007 on U14 team, and is doing it again in 2008 on U15 team. The team is coached by Jason Coughlin and has had a lot of success in the past. The hopes for 2008 season are high.
